Artist Bio - PJ Friel-Edwards
For as long as I can remember, books & computers have been my life. As a child, I read voraciously and longed, just as hungrily, for that holy of all technological wonders…the TI-99a. (Stop that snickering!) Books I had a plenty, but that computer...well that was a little out of reach of the family budget.
Never one to give up on a dream, I did what any kid would do. I sent in dozens of entries to a Captain Crunch TI-99a giveaway contest and nearly as many letters to good old Saint Nick. Sadly, neither the Captain nor the Jolly Elf came through for me. However, I never lost my passion for computers. But, what's that to do with art?
Flash forward to 2004. Completely infatuated with Luis Royo and his paintings of incredibly beautiful and sword wielding women, I began writing fantasy fiction. (Patience, patience. I’m getting to the art part.) With the writing came a longing to put faces to the characters that I’d been writing about for years. (See! The art part!)
Through the magical powers of my faithful PC (not the TI-99a, but just as good!) and the Goddess of the Internet, I unearthed the Blessed Talisman of Poser and at last breathed life into my visions. (No, I’m not crazy. That’s just writer talk for saying I googled and found a 3d art program that allowed me to turn my character sheets and stick figures into actual art.) The rest is, of course, history.
After 5 years of trial & error (and a lot of UGLY pictures), I feel that I’ve finally reached a point with my artwork where I won’t make anyone’s eyes bleed. A sale at a local gallery kind of helped, too.
Thus was born Amber Star Creations, this joint creative endeavor with my talented big sister, Dee.
Merging my artwork with her jewelry designs and glass etching, I feel that we bring something fun and unique to gift giving…a creative spark, you could say (and we did say…check out our tag line!). And so, I look forward to the challenges and rewards of sharing my life with you here via my artwork.
Here’s to beautiful adventures and leaps of faith…
